DeCew falls

It won't let me rotate it :(

This much steeper than it looks

More Waterfalls

Hey, once again sorry I haven't posted in while, I've been really busy with class and everything I just haven't had time.

So at the moment I'm in my third week of classes and I'm still finding them really interesting which is good. There is quite a lot of work to be done, I have a presentation next week and I need to write a thesis for an essay too, I completed my first assignment this week which I handed in today for Music Psychology which was basically about how music is a form of intelligence on its own, as well as survival benefits of music and how music is important in and infant's dependency on its parents, things like that. Think I did a good job on it :)

I also got 100% on my first test! ... it was only a five question multiple choice quiz worth 2% of my final grade but it's still 100%!!! That was for Music Psychology also, I had another test on Conducting yesterday which was much longer but I think I did ok, although I know I got Wagner and Weber mixed up. My Conducting class is really really interesting, its mainly practical and I get to play the piano during class. Nothing exciting just a melody line from a textbook. I had to do the exercise in front of the class yesterday and it went well, even though I was really nervous and my baton was shaking in my hand LOL. We're being assessed on that technique on Monday which will go towards our final mark, there's a lot more to it than I expected. It looks easy but it really isn't.

Last weekend was so good. Court 1 of my residence had a schedules hike to De Cew falls, even though Sabrina and I are from Court 2 we managed to tag along. It was mostly us from Keele (Me, Sabrina, Laurel, Jess, Anastasia) that went anyway except from two Canadians, Ryan (who looks just like Taylor Lautner) and Chris. Was such a good day, we started off leaving Brock along the Bruce Trail. The trail just goes through these woods just off campus and around this lake, I was amazed at how blue the water is in the lakes here, it's so pretty. On the way we passed the remains of De Cew house, which was built by John DeCew, Captain in the 2nd Lincoln Militia during the war of 1812. The house is remembered as the destination of heroin Laura Secord's celebrated journey to warn the British of a planned American attack - a bit of history there for you. By the time we left the house we were on the opposite side of the lake to Brock and you could see the Brock Tower peaking over the trees. A short walk through some more woods we came to DeCew falls and the old mill that's still there. The guide then decided to tell us that the only way to get to the pool at the bottom of the waterfall was to climb down this vertical cliff face whilst holding on to nothing more than tree roots! The pictures I have don't make it look as big as it actually was but it was rather scary!! Good fun though. Afterwards we swam in the pool under the waterfall, was so cold but you got used to it. I remember the force of the waterfall hurting as you go through it, but being behind the waterfall was definitely worth it. During that day I fell over a lot... you had to walk up stream to the pool and lost my balance a few times haha. Definitely the best day here so far, think we're going back again this weekend :)

Most evenings I spend my time either with the girls in my house or Sabrina, Jess and Laurel, we usually just play chords, just chill out really, they're really good fun to be around. Tonight we were supposed to be going to that club in Port Dalhousie but for some reason the event got cancelled so we'll probably be doing the same tonight.

Hope all is well back home, miss you, love you and I'll put some pictures up :) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Niagara Falls

So yesterday the international students had a free trip to Niagara Falls!! We left Brock at 10am on a couple of  those yellow school buses you see in films and I was surprised that its really not that far away! When we got there we were just told that we could go off and do whatever we wanted as long as we were back at the buses by 1pm. I was with friends from Keele, Sabrina, Laurel and Jess and we went straight to the Maid of the Mist boats! The falls were amazing we got really good views from the top of cliffs and again whilst we were making our way down to the boats. I never seen anything that big before it was unreal! Especially when we got on the boats and got so close. Before we got on we were given these blue poncho raincoats and how we needed them! We got absolutely soaked from the spray - still got some great pictures though. After the boat tour we just wandered around the area looking in shops, got some lunch. Then at 1pm we got the buses and went to Niagara on the Lake, which from what I saw was just a little town... not really sure why we went there but it was a really nice place :) we bought ice creams and I got sun burn :(

Today was Brock's annual residence games. My housemates and I got all face-painted up and had to dress in green for Village Residence. Was SO SO SO hot and I got more sun burn :/ but was really good. We didn't stay til the end though because the heat was just getting too much. There were games there with inflatables, waterballoon toss, relay races. Every residence had their own colours and everyone kept talking about TEAM SPIRIT.... was a really Canadian afternoon....

Afterwards, Sabrina and I went to the Mall and got caught in a storm coming back... got soaked again. Right now its 19:32 and I'm sitting in bed watching this week's Doctor Who for the THIRD time.... yes, it was that good. :)

Love you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
